Sumter County Developmental Disabilities Foundation
The Sumter County Developmental Disabilities Foundation, Inc. was established in January 1996, as a nonprofit organization to assist the Sumter County Disabilities and Special Needs Board (SCDSNB) in fundraising and obtaining financial support from the Sumter Community. The governing body of the Foundation consists of no more than 20 volunteer members, including members from the Board of Directors of the SCDSNB, the parent support group “Parents and Everyone for Exceptional People,” and persons chosen at large from residents of Sumter County. Funds are used to benefit adults and children of Sumter County with intellectual/developmental disabilities and autism.
It is the philosophy of the Sumter County Disabilities and Special Needs Board (SCDSNB) that every individual with intellectual/developmental disabilities and autism served by the agency receives appropriate and specialized training in the least restrictive environment. The SCDSNB is committed to the provision of a variety of services, including but not limited to service coordination, respite, residential placement, job training, early intervention, and rehab support. The SCDSNB also provides support and assistance to these families and involves the community in the welfare of these individuals. A volunteer Board of Directors establishes policy for the SCDSNB. The Board of Directors comprises seven members, appointed by the Governor, representing parents of individuals with special needs, minority groups, professionals, business leaders, and community service.
